review 1: I recently read Do Your Laundry or You’ll Die Alone by Becky Blades. First of all, I love how this book started out by reminding us that we have so much information and advice at our fingertips these days. We are blessed with a plethora of information that our mothers couldn’t get when they were our age. Because of that, if we have a question, we can simply Google it and get an answer, thus avoiding some embarrassingly awkward conversations with our mothers. The book goes on to say that despite all of that, we can’t get our mother’s voice. And that is important. We may be able to find information all over the internet, but that information might not be personal to us. Our mother’s know us personally and are able to take that advice and mold it directly to our need... mores. This book was a great read. I enjoyed all of the advice and tidbits that Becky Blades had to give. This book contains all of your mothers advice – even the pieces that you may not have heard throughout all the noise growing up. It’s great reminders how to live in order to be happy and successful and to make others happy. The book is formatted in a very easy to read format and would make a perfect gift for somebody going away to college, or beginning life on their own. It would also make a great gift for a teen who will one day be on their own. In fact, if somebody is ever going to live on their own, they should read this book. With that said, this book is geared toward that crowd getting ready to leave the home, but is really practical advice for all of us – men and women. I did receive this book free of charge in exchange for a review, but I will definitely be purchasing copies of this book for my children when they get older. This is the kind of book that one can sit on their nightstand and turn back to many times. If you like easy to read, neatly organized books then this is definitely one you should purchase.
review 2: There's very little worse than coming upon a situation in adulthood that no one prepared you for; one exception to that might be your child coming upon a situation nobody prepared her for. This book is great for girls who are graduating from high school or even college, and it's reassuring for their moms. Sure, as a parent you might have mentioned that it's a bad idea to mix colors in the washing machine or the temperature you have to raise something to in order to sterilize it, but there are lots of gems in Do Your Laundry that might never have become an issue in the 18 years your child lived at home. Some of the best: "Buy a cute umbrella"; "Pop Tarts are the best breakup food"; "Hide your chocolate"; "Make something every day". There are 270 of these little bonbons of advice in the book. Some stand alone; others are supported by a paragraph or two of detailed explanation and justification that makes every bit of counsel seem perfectly natural and correct; all are written with the kind of love that only a mom can put into words. There are even a few pages near the end where the reader's mom (or anyone else who loves her) can write personal notes and advice. As a young woman who has just moved out on her own, this book is not as invaluable as the advice I've gotten from my actual mom over the past 19 years, but it's a relatively close second. less

A few good tips, and a few dumb ones, but still a decent book.
