review 1: A search and find type book but what I like about this one is there is a story that goes with it. Little Bear has run off in chase of a bee. Papa Bear must wake up from hibernation to find him. Going on a chase through an opera house, readers are shown a look at all the back rooms that make up an opera house, and all the places a little bear can hide. The story is cute enough and fans of Waldo and I Spy type books will like looking through the detailed illustrations to find Little Bear.
review 2: In this visually expressive story, a papa bear frantically searches for his wandering son as he chases a bee through the forest, into the city, and eventually into a theater. Tall pages provide lots of room for expansive, detailed vistas, filled with both the fauna
... more and flora of the forest, or in the case of the city, all the objects and people. As the book progresses it becomes a game to find the little bear and his bee. The artist does not intentionally try to hide him, rather the bear just gets lost in the crowd, or blends into the environment. Each page contains funny details, such as a deer with a broken antler, or the papa bear dressed up for the theater. No specific time period gets mentioned, however the architecture and vintage colours suggest the early modern period. Why people at this time would be oblivious to a bear in their midst is uncertain, but it makes it all the more amusing. less
