review 1: Fast paced story, with a fantasy/horror take on current events. The story uses werewolf-ism to explore terrorism, nationalism, tolerance, and the fear of disease among other issues. I liked the creativity of it all, and the scope was more limited than an epic-style novel like The Stand or The Passage. Werewolf books aren't normally my thing, but the political spin on this one made it a better read. review 2: Absolutely gripping read and very hard to put down. The characters were incredibly involving and the writing visceral, absorbing. But there seemed to be one too many movements in this symphony for me. By the end I wished we'd stayed in the first half and played out the smaller more careful stories than rocketed on into the future and a different apocalypt... moreic scenario. Percy tackles a great deal in this one. less
