The Warrior Chronicles/Saxon Stories
review 1: Uhtred's story continues but with a little less gore than in the rest of the series to date. That came as a relief to me although we still had plenty men 'mewing' as they succumbed to Serpent-Breath, Uhtred's weapon of mass destruction. This instalment gives us more twists and turns than before and more to think about as the various armies try to outwit each other. I'm about to start reading what I thought was the last book in the series but oh joy!, Cornwell has announced the publication of Uhtred 8 in October 14. I can't wait!
review 2: The sixth novel in Bernard Cornwell’s Saxon series is every bit as good as the previous five, with a lot of very gritty action in late 9th Century England. The story follows Uhtred’s continued struggles in leading Saxons
... more into battles against Danes, whilst coping with the hostility of the Church. Many of the characters are two dimensional, and the regular action scenes are quite repetitive, but I can’t but enjoy every page and look forward to further novels in the series. Recommended. less

I didn't think it was as good as his earlier books in this series. I thought the ending was rushed.
