Fall 83 Pro Wrestling Champions League Part 1

PWCL FALL 83 ROUND 1 PART 1

To determine who wins the match ups in round one we took the points we gave each wrestler for each appearance in the first 3 1/2 weeks of December 1983 and averaged them out.

#4. Magnum TA vs. #29. The Invaders

While Magnum TA’s December was not as noteworthy as October and November, he was still on a few exciting shows in Mid-South. The Invaders were on a few shows for WWF in December, but just a bunch of boring squash matches.

Magnum TA in 4 appearances (avg)=1.75

The Invaders in 3 appearances (avg)=1.166

WINNER: Magnum TA

#2. Don Muraco vs. #31. Akira Maeda

Don Muraco coming off a successful and entertaining fall as Intercontinental champion, but in December is two appearances were mostly minor. Meanwhile, Akira Maeda was putting in work at NJPW and getting some prime matches. This included a good tag match against the team of Inoki and Hulk Hogan. Maeda’s more eventful December led to the first big upset of the tournament defeating Muraco.

WINNER: Akira Maeda

#1. Butch Reed vs. #32. Mitsuharu Misawa

The number one seed had his work cut out for him again Mitsuharu Misawa. Misawa had 4 matches in December. 3 of the matches were good enough to earn 2 points or more. Even though Butch Reed and Jim Neidhart lost the tag titles in December, that did not mean he was still not one of the most important aspects of the Mid-South shows.

Reed averaged 2.83 the first 3.5 weeks.

Misawa averaged 2.0

WINNER: Butch Reed

#3. Wild Samoans vs. #30. Kerry Von Erich

Even though the Wild Samoans lost their tag titles to Rocky Johnson and Tony Atlas back in November, they had two solid matches in.

Kerry Von Erich had one great 6 man tag match teaming up with his brothers against Ric Flair, Terry Gordy & Buddy Roberts, but his other appearance was lackluster.

This led to both Kerry Von Erich and the Wild Samoans to average 2.25 points and both with two appearances. This is something you fans will help decide when we start doing current Leagues in October 2017, but for this we had to make a call and we gave the win to the team coming off a WWF Tag Team Championship reign.

WINNER: Wild Samoans
