review 1: What the hell is this and how did it get onto my 'recommended' list???? If I find out who recommended this piece of trash to me, I'm going to have to reconsider our friendship. In reimagining the slave trade, Evaristo simply takes all the stereotypes of black and white folks and inverts them. But all the stereotypes--particularly of black folks--are completely intact, and there's simply no innovation at all. Seriously disgusted.
review 2: The idea for this book is interesting, but the book itself is not. Some parts dragged on and some seemed to go by too quickly without enough explanation. Imagine if Africans had enslaved Europeans. What would our world look like?
What if Africa had been the colonizer, oppressor, slave trader?
