Since You’ve Been Gone by Morgan Matson
Rating: 5/5 stars
My Thoughts:
This book is exactly what a summer contemporary should be- fun! Reading this book was quite enjoyable, from the setting to the characters, to the wacky list of things to accomplish, I loved it. I liked the balance the book struck, as in being funny but not being too silly that everything was ridiculous or cheesy.
“Real friends are the ones you can count on no matter what.
The ones who go into the forest to find you and bring you home.
And real friends never have to tell you that they’re your friends.”
The whole plot of Emily’s journey to finish the list her best friend left her before disappearing and Emily’s character growth was just stunning.
At first she was so awkward and shy, needing her best friend and then slowly turning into someone who could be her own person and form other relationships and do things she didn’t think she could do. I thought her inner monologue was funny and I also loved seeing her relationship with Frank grow. I actually got a bit of a Anna and the French Kiss vibe from them and I of course liked that.
This book was so much about friendship and it was a perfect summer read.
