review 1: I totally judged this book by its cover as I grabbed it from the library display on my way out and I judged right! I was very pleasantly surprised. This is kind of like Mattie Spencer/These Is My Words on the high seas. I liked her writing style. She didn't use a lot of fore shadowing, if not done correctly fore shadowing can make a book very predictable and therefore boring, I was glad not to not feel either. Once I felt a little foreboding, but was justified. The trials and difficulties encountered were just as life would be: they came on with out a whole lot of fan fare, they were endured and survived and it wasn't until hind-sight that she realized what she had just gone through...very accurate. I also liked Azuba the protagonist and felt her decision making proc... moreess was real as well...who doesn't think they know exactly what they want only to question themselves later? One thing I didn't like was the epilogue...the final chapter was ended so well that I felt it a little self-indulging.
review 2: This lesson in this book is to be careful what you ask for--you might just get it. The story is wonderfully told with rich descriptions that give just the right amount of detail. The mind's eye is able to go along on this journey into the possibly dangerous unknown. This book is filled with longing, grand adventure, turmoil, danger, redemption, and loyalty. The story reminds us that life is never what we thought it would be, but we can make the most of what has been offered us along the way. less
