review 1: Maggie Mae has lived in foster homes for as long as she can remember...and she is a handful. Recently, she's been picked up for indecent exposure and the current placement is over...so off to Silver City, NM.Things don't go well for Maggie Mae: She attracts attention at school, she becomes the target of girl bullies. She shifts into different animals on the night of the full moon. That's a lot for a girl to deal with. And finish high school. There is Navajo mythology here, Skinwalkers, shape shifters. Romance. Danger. A fast read that left me wishing for a longer story. More character development, especially some of the minor characters.A book that leaves you wanting more.An ending that could lead to a sequel, I think.A snake on the cover! EEK!
review 2: Maggie
... moreMae is a foster kid who has been moving around a lot lately because of her multiple indecent exposure arrests. While trying to make a home for herself she gains the attention of popular Bridger O'Connell and the ire of just about everyone else. There is also a strange man asking about her around town and not to mention her developing powers as a shifter...so she has a lot going on. Animal attacks, especially near her home with Mrs. Carpenter are becoming more frequent and she has no idea who is even after her. I did not love the way this story ended, I thought it was kind of rushed and all the information came out at once...I would have liked a longer buildup...This book was ok. I thought Maggie was an ok character and even though there is a lot of hating on him I didn't think Bridger was that bad. I liked that it was a bit of a different take on shifters and that was pretty refreshing. Honestly, I think the biggest problem for me was the dialogue it was super awkward and killed a lot of the scenes for me. less

An interesting take on the shape-shifting lore. I enjoyed the Native American element.
