review 1: Such wonderful writing about arriving and surviving in the great USA. There were many touching, emotional moments in this novel. The voice of Nora is so true for her age. But she has to be mature as well. Illegal details problems of the coyote trip to America. It's fascinating, enlightening and horrifying. Would we be able to give up everything like those begging to be allowed in America? This book is timely and a necessary read! Bettina rocks it!
review 2: The book "Illegal" was about a young girl that goes and looks for her father in the United States. Her grandma is against her because she does not want her to go. The girl is going with her mom but she needs someone to take care of her grandma. Everything is fine until she gets a letter from her dad and she ... moredoesn’t tell her mom about the letter. She went to the bank to pick up the money her dad sends her and he did not send any money and her mom finds out and almost faints. That’s when they decide to leave and go look for him. She tells her bank friend to take care of her grandma. He says sure and tells her he will take care of her. She finally crosses the border with her mom and they go looking for her dad. They find him and they finally come together. I loved this book because it was really detailed and it had a lot of suspense. I recommend this book to others because it says how many people cross the border to be with their family. I think it explains really well the act of being in a family. This book was full of suspense and laughter. It also represents how poor families keep going and never fall behind. You should really read this book! less
