review 1: I got to 12% and had enough. I read more loins, moisture between her thighs, and other terms for male genitalia in that 12% than in most novels I read from start to finish! It was a bit grotesque (and I read a lot of romance novels). I am not giving this a star rating since I only read 12%, but the impression I got was not a good one. The heroine, completely out of character for the time period hopelessly lusted and took sexual liberties with a man she just met and the man is no better. Then they get caught. Their behavior was that shallow. It was pathetic. No more for me on this one.
review 2: Lord Derek Creswell has felt the young lady’s eyes on him at every social event that they have attended over the past month. He has not been introduced to the la
... moredy but plans to get an introduction through his friend Lord Alex Cartwright. Lord Alex Cartwright warns him off the girl saying she is under Lord Rutherford’s protection, as she is his wife’s cousin, while in London, and she is a country innocent. Miss Elizabeth Smith is having her first Season in London and has been surreptitiously watching Lord Creswell. She has had a crush on the gentleman since she first saw him in her family’s home when she was 15, not that he ever saw her. She knows any introduction to him would be horrendous considering her family’s history with him and his family. Unfortunately for her, she has no willpower where he is concerned. The situation goes terribly awry when Elizabeth is confronted by a renowned busy-body and gossip, Lady Danvers, and Mrs. Abernathy, one of her mother’s dearest friends, after having been thoroughly kissed by Lord Creswell on the patio. Luckily the ladies did not see the man that Elizabeth had been with but, how to extricate herself from this situation without bringing shame on her family and ruin to herself? What indeed but, to tell the ladies that she was overcome when the gentleman had proposed to her and she had accepted! “Oh, what a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to deceive”. less

I took a chance on this book since it was free on Barnes and Noble. It took a bit to figure out who was who and what their history was and then it went downhill. Quickly. As every other review has said, Derek is a jerk. He sets out to ruin her, succeeds, and she just grins and takes it like an idiot. Because the writing style and prose were not the worst I've read, it gets 2 stars and a solid "OK" but I can't say I will ever read it again or recommend it to anyone. I also doubt I will read anything else by the author until she figures out that not all girls want to be courted by, seduced by, and wind up married to a jerk.

I found this to be pretty good. The beginning was a little too much, because they're were so many characters, it took me a bit to 'somewhat' figure out who everyone was. Needless to say, there were a few grammatical errors, nothing major thankfully. The whole 'Smiths, Smyths and Smythes' thing was suppose because they're all pronounced the same. One thing that gets me in reading these types of stories is all the crap the girls suffer with when it comes to 'getting attention' from the guys. I mean a simple kiss and suddenly they need to be rushed off to get married. Very stupid. Whatever.
