review 1: This is a great book. I loved how Swerling moved from the present day back to Tudor England. The story presented from each perspective was very interesting. There was a great deal of drama shown during each era. The main characters were well-rounded, the pace brisk and the overall writing superb. I really enjoy the historical novels of Beverly Swerling. I've read them all and she never disappoints.
review 2: This book was OK -- not deserving of its pretentious quasi-literary marketing hype, but not too bad either, as books of this sort go. I was ill-disposed towards it for the first chapter or so, because it opened much like A Discovery of Witches -- supposedly smart, competent female academic lands in the UK on a research trip and is immediately subsumed into
... moreA Man (go to London, ladies, it's like the post-doctoral version of getting your Mrs!) However, in this case the book doesn't suffer from the dysfunctional relationship drama that sucked the life out of Witches. The main female character actually is instrumental in the action that drives the novel. The romance is non-volatile and does not interfere with the mystery, which actually becomes rather entertaining and engaging after a while, even if it is the same old same old hidden Templar treasure that has been dug up by the likes of Kate Mosse and others. less

Enjoyable. If Dan Brown knew how to write, this is what his books would be like.

3.5 way too contrived. But the chase at the end of the book had me engrossed.
