review 1: This novella reminded me a bit of the movie Black Swan (in a less psychotic way), and the parts detailing the intense feelings of the main character were interesting to read. The rest of it, describing operatic singing, for example, was strikingly boring. I finished the book two days ago and couldn't remember the end; when I re-read it to write a review, it was something dramatic enough that I should have remembered it. I don't know if something was lost in translation, but there was definitely something missing.
