review 1: This is a very funny--and very smart--book. The prose has such driving energy that it's hard to put down. I loved the deeply flawed characters, and loved how I eventually came to understand their weird lingo & bizarre in-jokes. They have created a language & slang all their own, but as they've gotten older, that language has grown stale, and they've become "incarcerated" by their own "linguistic detritus," as one character eloquently states. What he means is that these best friends are no longer best friends, and they're only now coming to realize it. If this doesn't move you, then you are so Colonel Hellstache.
review 2: Hep hep as jalapeño bubblegum and shopping cart races. Very much a voice borne out of Toys-R-Us colors gone freeze-rusted. Imagine a white n
... moreerd rapper in a Buffalo Bills ski mask. Early on the language sometimes felt like too much for the feelings present, like things turned epic on a dime too much, like you-really-spent-that-much-thyme-on-a-grilled-cheese-sandwich?, but eventually everything settles into the service of such friendship and sadness that you end up won. Recommended for when you are feeling at your most winter-crazed and even the gray snow looks chewable. less

I feel like this book was told from the perspective of a young Chuck Palahniuk-type. I liked it.

Interesting start, but the lingo gets old and in the way of the story.
