review 1: I received this book for free from Goodreads First Reads to review. This book had a lot of action and mystery in it but not enough romance to really be a romantic suspense. The action and mystery was exciting and it was a lot of different guesses on what exactly was going on.Tag runs into a woman at a bar looking very drunk and hopping into someone's truck. Lily finds it very odd that her best waitress is leaving her shift early again. When tag finds a thumb drive in his pocket the dead waitress left him he and Lily end up on a danger filled quest to uncover the code on the thumb drive.Tag and Lily had very little interactions before they slept together and then they were apart for the majority of the rest of the book. So aside from their thoughts on one another there was v... moreery little romance or passion which is unusual in a romantic suspense novel but in a way refreshing too. It leaves more to the readers interpretation on what their life together would be like. B.J. Daniels used one of her old baddies from another book which worked because she featured old side characters as well, which made this book hard to read as a stand alone since past plot points were spoiled. However both that character and the other evil character were both very good and sometimes surprising. The book kept me on my toes throughout. The big complaint I had was that the book was very short so alot of things like the romance or mystery aspects were rushed and could have been better had more time been spent on them. I like this book enough that I would read more by author B.J. Daniels in the future.
review 2: B.J. Daniels brings us a mystery with a mild romance in the center. The plot flows effortlessly and her use of imagery is brilliant. The characters are lovable and strong. With each page turned I became more invested in the storyline. This is a great book and I enjoyed it. Tag Cardwell is a character the reader will cheer for the entire story. Lily McCabe is a character you want to cheer for one minute and choke the next. Tag comes to Montana to reconnect with a father he's basically been estranged from since his parents divorce. Upon reaching his father's house the reception he receives is less than inviting, but Tag is determined to put their relationship on tract. He finds his dad at the local bar playing music and hopes to be able to talk with him, but instead has a run in with a drunk waitress. Suddenly another one questions him about the first one, which he knows nothing about, not even her name. The next day while on a family outing to find a Christmas tree with Dana, a cousin, and her children, Tag finds a dead body. It turns out the dead body is that of none other than the waitress who he bumped into last night that was so drunk. When foul play is suspected, Tag worries about her having a connection to his father. Lily comes to Big Sky every year to spend the holidays with her brother and to help out in his bar while she's there. This year has been a not so good year and she desperately needs time to think about the choices she's made in her life. 6 months ago Gerald, her fiancé, had hurt and humiliated her by leaving her literally at the altar without any explanation. She is still as confused now by his abandonment as she was then. One night during a shift, one of the waitresses just disappears during her shift. Finding her purse and coat, Lily decides to drop by her condo and drop them off and maybe get some answers to why she left. When she arrives to find the apartment trashed, the police are notified and she finds out that the girl has been killed. Tag and Lily are both suspicious of this murder and when important factors are brought to the surface the combine forces to solve this mystery. As they spend more time together, romantic tension erupts between Tag and Lily. Unfortunately for Lily, she is in the middle of solving something crucial in the case when Gerald unexpectedly arrives. Of course this leads to even more confusion for Lily. As things in the investigation heat up Tag is convinced that Lily could be in danger and wants to protect her. less
