review 1: This novel presents the story of an adolescent girl who ends up living on her own on a river, sort of like Huck Finn, but the setting (Michigan, late 1970s) makes it a totally different thing. There's a lot of sex, not all of it healthy, and a lot of shooting, not all of it for food or target practice.
review 2: Margo, the female protagonist, is much like a leaf upon the river, flowing with the current throughout this story. We see glimpses of her strength, but she is overall passive. Margo Crane is for women who Huck Finn is for men. Written like the river, I did not want it to end.
