review 1: Roger is the all American quarterback. Straight A student. The son of an understanding, accepting, and caring father, who is a history professor. Brian is the bad boy baseball player, who comes from a somewhat violent household, with a jerk factory worker for a dad. His dad likes to pit him and his brothers against each other. Roger and Brian meet their Junior year of college in history class, when Brian transfers from another school. Roger is instantly attracted to Brian, who is very straight. They become friends and eventually Brian falls in love with Roger as well. This is a best friends to lovers book. This book gives you a lot of back ground on what these boys childhoods, and early college careers were like before they met. I would say the 1st 25% or so of the book de... moreals with this. I don't mind this, but I kinda felt like "okay, let's get to the present already". When you do get to the present you have to almost be a sports fan. It deals a lot with their sports careers. I love football and understand it, but I am not keen on baseball, and so I didn't care for Brian's part of the story as much. This was not written as just one or both of MC's POV's. You get inside of Rogers dad and a couple of their friends as well. Even though it was multiple POV's I never felt confused as to who was speaking. This book dealt with drinking, and drug use. It also shows how these guys have to deal with hiding their sexuality in order to play pro sports. This is so sad.My biggest problem with this book was I felt Roger loved and was more committed to Brian than Brian was to Roger. Even though Brian told Roger he loved him. I sort of didn't believe it. His actions didn't quite show his feelings the ways Rogers did.
review 2: Brad Vance you make me sick with how good this book was! I am not interested in sports whatsoever but you made me understand and feel everything that these two men went through like it was myself. This was an amazing story between two men who loved each other to their cores. I have to say though my favorite part of the book was with Jacob and Roger when Roger was a little boy. GOSH! So adorable! Lol. But let me digress. This is a book I am going to read over and over again for years and I am going to be a follower of Brad Vance's work for years also. Everyone please get this book so we can all share the awesomeness that is Roger and Brian! less
