review 1: I used this book as a read aloud as it was donated by a Kindergartner for her birthday. I will admit, I really wasn't sure how this book would go over. I should never have worried though! The kids were fascinated, particularly by the grosser details of a frog who swallows its tadpoles, then throws them up as froglets. I think they could have listened to this book all day. Many wonderful questions and insights too!
review 2: Frog Song is and informational book about the many different types of frogs and the noises that they make. This book is not limited to the sounds that frogs make, it also talks about their life styles from birth to adulthood. It takes the reader’s knowledge of what they thought they knew about frogs go a whole new level. An adult can al
... moreways tell when a children’s book is good quality when they are also learning from the content. Which was exactly what I felt like while I was reading this book. I liked that the author included all the different ways that frog eggs are cared for prior to hatching. In some cases they are laid in a swampy area, sometimes they are attached to the mother or father until they hatch, and many other bazaar ways that you wouldn’t even imagine. Each page includes an illustration of the frog that is being introduced with a visual of both the frog as an adult, and its eggs. Younger children who do not know how to read will love this book for the pictures on their own. This was a great informational book and is appropriate for the audience it is intended for. It would be useful for teachers who may be doing a lesson on amphibians. For an upper-middle school class the teacher could have the student’s choose a type of frog they are interested in learning more about and do brief "report" on it. less
