review 1: An extremely good layman's explanation of Einstein's theory of special relativity. It talks quite a bit about the standard model of particle physics and general relativity too. Unlike most books written for the general public, this one does not shy away from mathematics completely, and this is greatly to its credit. I did not follow the math in all of its details, but it is not necessary to do so to appreciate that these astoundingly accurate theories, which between them cover all of the known forces in the universe, are based on relatively simple math. The hard part is not the math, but the ability, which takes some practice, of letting go of our poor intuition about how stuff actually works.(Well, okay, the math for general relativity is apparently not simple at all, a... morend it is appropriately not covered in the book.)
