The Promises of Dr. Sigmundus
review 2: It had been well over a year since I read the first of the Promises of Dr. Sigmundus books, and I found myself really confused the first half of my reading of this sequel. It's not that I want more recap, and in fact I'd say the recap that existed was han
... moredled really very naturally through introductions to new characters and other characters having to rediscover their own memories. What I was missing was the overarching "why are these characters doing this again?" I also thought it was way too short, but I guess that's a good thing because it shows I was really enjoying it. The dystopian aspects of this series are what draw me in. The substance Ichor is said to eradicate violence and wrong-doing from the world, but it really seems only to engender blind obedience from those who are effected by it. So what is Dr. Sigmundus really after? The Odyll seems to be the source of several of the characters' mysterious powers, but what exactly is it? Sometimes it seems like a place, sometimes like a memory or a dream. I have so many questions. This story is complex and vast, but the amount of pages per each installment leaves little room to bring the various threads together. Let's hope the next one (last one?) starts to make some sense of it all. less
