review 1: As children, or even as adults, things don't always make sense, and they definitely don't always go our way. With a good imagination, we can attempt to create our own sensible narrative. This is exactly what the protagonist, a 10-year-old boy, does. The voice of this child was magnificent and realistic. At turns funny and heartbreaking, this is an excellent illustration of how we can talk ourselves into believing anything.
review 2: A triumph of a book. Clarke deftly tells a complex tale weaving together an homage to Fred Exley and the tragedy of Iraq.
