review 1: Two and half stars. The book started off OK but got duller and duller. Essentially the book chronicles what some people consider the ideal romantic relationship. The two men are drawn together from the moment they meet and nothing is going to get in the way of their perfect love because they are meant to be together. Personally, I find that type of love story neither entertaining or appealing. It is a kind of magical thinking that strips away what it means to really get to know someone and learn to love them. Instead you get characters sleep walking though life until they finely bump into that one special someone for them and then their life really begins. Maybe I'm weird but I find that depressing not uplifting. The book opens with one of the characters, Zach preparing to... more attend his mother's funeral. This was a bizarre choice because neither Zach, nor his brother have any reaction to their mother's death. After the funeral, her death is ignored. I kept expecting something, anything regarding her death but she might as well have died decades ago for the impact it had on the story. The story glosses over some of Zach's unhappy childhood, but it clear that they are just there as window dressing, because nothing is going to get in the way of the rainbow parade that is Zach's discovery of his one true love, Aaron.Aaron is a pathetic doormat that does everything for everyone. Considering how Zach's brother and sister-in-law kept taking advantage of him, I really expected something to come of this story-wise. But of course it is all hugs and puppy dogs in Zach's life so this too is just ignored becoming just a vehicle to show how utterly awesome a person Aaron is. Personally, I thought Aaron had more than a few screws loose. The book has a lot of sex scenes, most of it really well written, but it is just way too much of good thing and quickly became boring. I already knew that there sex life was perfect. Reading another dozen examples of it was telling me anything new about them. The ending seemed arbitrary. Personally I was ready for the book to end a good hundred pages sooner. There was a cameo appearance of some other perfect couple at the end of the book that made me want to puke. Apparently they are so perfect together that they don't exist unless they are in each others presence. Wow, talk about unhealthy relationships.
review 2: Read this review at your own risk. *spoiler alert*2.5 stars, rounded up, because, honestly, a story needs to bore me to freaking tears for me to give it less than this; and because, despite the annoying insta-love and having way too much sex, the MCs turned out being pretty likable (!). BUT I also have to say that the cheating added a star here... I adore a slutty party boy and this one cheated on his date, during a party, and with two guys, no less! Yup, he was trying to push the guy (his date) away, I got that... but, c'mon, that was pretty low! And I adored it. ;-) It was heaven compared to all the "I love you, babe" that came after that. I'm saying no more, just this: if you like sweet, sugary stories, this one might be the one for you. less
