review 1: This is a passionate football romance filled with drama and lots of sizzle. The story is about Bryan Townsend, a professional football player, who plays for the Mariners and is trying to clean up his bad boy image. For years Bryan’s life has consisted of three things football, drinking and women. Now, he’s paying the price for his self indulgent lifestyle and worries about his future in football. On the outside Bryan is a confident and cocky guy, but inside he’s hurting and afraid to share his concerns with anyone.Jill St. John has always wanted Bryan to notice her, but Bryan has kept his distance because he knows she’s too young and innocent for him. When Bryan returns home to attend his sister’s wedding, Jill convinces him to spend some time with her. He... more doesn’t want Jill to get hurt, so from the beginning, Bryan is up front and let’s her know he isn’t interested in a long-term relationship. His sole focus is on football and he doesn’t have room for anything else in his life.Cari Quinn writes a provocative story about a man struggling to overcome his issues. Bryan is a man used to taking what he wants and not worrying about the consequences. Jill on the other hand, has lived a sheltered, quiet life and is a good hearted person. Bryan doesn’t want to corrupt Jill, but she keeps pushing him for more. Bryan has never met anyone like Jill; she accepts his imperfections, even though he can be thoughtless and has a hard time sharing his feelings. Bryan knows he doesn’t deserve someone like Jill, but he just can’t seem to resist her. Reviewed by Karen for Cocktails and Books
review 2: This is definitely a case of “It’s not you….it’s me”. This book would be “friend-zoned” it’s like meeting a nice guy, your sexually compatible, you listen to the same music & watch the same movies, your friends overlap…..BUT it’s just off. He’s a nice guy….just not for you. That was me & this book. I felt like the author was toying with me for most of the book, there was some pretty steaming sex scenes & a male POV (which I adore) BUT Bryan (main character) kept alluding to the fact he liked dirtier/rougher sex. Bryan turned out to be a tease because at 60% I’m still like “hey when are we getting to the rough stuff”. Apparently so was the heroine (Jill) because by the time they got to the (I refuse to call it rough let’s just say it was more interesting) sex she was like “stop talking & start doing”. I do thank the author for dispensing with the heroine’s virginity quickly rather than dragging it out. less
