review 1: Therapy is sometimes messy. It approaches problems out of order, wanders from one storyline to the next, and visits past wrongdoings repeatedly. In this way, The Wild Truth is therapy for Carine. The truth - ugly as it is - needed to be said so that she could heal and grow. I respect her for telling her own story and appreciate her need to do so; however, I can't say I particularly *enjoyed* the book. It could have been much shorter, for one thing. Some anecdotes seemed barely relevant to Chris' story. Some readers pointed to the book's focus on the parents more than Chris as a flaw, but it makes sense here. They shaped so much of who Chris was and Carine is, and their history was so much longer than Chris', sadly. I'm thankful to have a clearer picture of Chris' motivatio... morens, but I wouldn't be in a hurry to reread or recommend this one.
review 2: Carine pulls away the veil of mystery surrounding Chris' motives for leaving his family and severing communications with his parents as he ventured Into the Wild. Carine openly discusses the childhood that she, Chris, and the rest of their siblings lived through. She highlights the effects that physical and emotional abuse had on her family at the hands of narcissistic parents, with a level of honesty and candor not previously seen by the public. I would recommend this book to anyone wanting to know more about Chris, but especially to anyone who has suffered abuse. Carine is a remarkable example of someone who has put her foot down and broken the cycle of abuse. less
