review 1: Witty, insightful, thought-provoking commentary on politics in America and how it intersects with Christianity (and critical thinking). His basis premise is that Christians should strive to be good citizens with a reputation of thoughtful, informed and measured political involvement. It will make you uncomfortable at times, whether you lean to the right or the left politically, but perhaps most specifically to conservative Christians. He really tears into Fox News, Rush Limbaugh, and even George W. Bush, but he does so in fair way. I highly recommend this short little book. If nothing else, it will make you think, and perhaps even hesitate a bit before accepting the normal political jargon that tends to over-simplify and contradict.
review 2: I wish I could get... more anyone who pays attention to politics in America to read this book! Written by a conservative evangelical professor of church history and a man raised in the British Reformed Church tradition, Dr Trueman presents a cogent, thought provoking critique of the American political process and how our parties have shifted focus over the years bringing us to this point in history when reasoned discourse seems nearly impossible. He skewers sacred cows on both the left and right sides of the debate and presents the reader with a good solid starting point to begin to rethink long cherished notions of the Christian's role in the political arena. At 110 pages, it is a short read, but packed with plenty to chew on. Seriously. Read this book! less
