review 1: El libro no es una joya de la literatura ni nada de eso pero no se me hizo pesado a pesar de lo predecible que es la historia. Yo pienso que como es fácil de leer me pareció un buen pasatiempo. Lo que si no me gustó fue su alegato moralista sobre porqué uno de los personajes decide no abortar "¿Que culpa tiene el bebé de que me acostara con su padre sin amarlo?" O algo así piensa el personaje. Ay por Dios, ya es suficiente con los cuentos moralistas que nos tenemos que aguantar todos los días sobre el aborto como para que me echen otro rollo de esos en medio de una novelilla mediocre.
review 2: I certainly expected much of this book. But actually, it was not as good. I liked the WWII historic part more through the middle of the book, but there were cert... moreain details which I have to declare I could not let go. Ana is the worst character. I guess sometimes her initial personality was horrific enough for the author to try to change it, but it was really conflictive now and then. I can see that the personality the author was trying to portrait was that of a weak and dominated woman that couldn't take a grip on herself, because she was accustomed to her superficial and vain relationship that somehow filled some of ther internal self-esteem voids, but it was more than that. There was no construction for such personality. It could be better to explore more in the protagonist, go deep, to know more about her family.Talking about families, Konrad's family. There was an interesting twist which the author just throwed away when there weren't more pages to fill with it. She didn't took advantage from a great idea.The parts I somehow enjoyed were the ones of the past, with those interesting WW2 characters, well constructed, which evolved throughtout the story. Those parts were incredible. Although I think someone like Sarah would have found some information regarding all the members of her family, not just here mother and siblings, but also her aunt and cousin, with whom she lived a while through the war. less
