review 1: This book has what you need from a mystery novel. It has the suspense, the bit of horror, the clues. It was really captivating to read, and not to hard to stomach, even for big wimps like me. To be fair it may seem like nothing in comparison to readers of Stephen King, or of 'The Girl who...' novels. But I think it holds it's own.An interesting thing I noted though, was that it seemed a little over-literary. The book seems to drip with dark metaphors, every broken structure of object is referred to as a skeleton, every dark stain likened to blood. The main character, Ben, also references classic literature and defines literary terms. None of this does anything to hinder the enjoyment of the story, but it did strike me as odd, as if the writer were trying to prove his degre... moree in literature. Maybe I only noticed because I spent a year studying literature to college level. It was just something that struck me about this story.
review 2: In The midnight palace by Carlos Ruiz Zafron, two baby twins had been separated at birth to be protected from a mysterious evil who has sworn to kill every last member of the twins family. The twins, Sheene and Ben finally uncover the truth and Ben's crew whom he had been friends with for as long as he could remember decided to help. After years of feeling left out and abandoned, Sheene had finally found a huge family. But thier happiness did't last long as the impending evil bore down and began the fight for the twins life. This book is the second of the trilogy and i would recommend reading the first book to understand a bit more about the charecters and how they interact with one another. I would recommend this book to readers who enjoy adventure and suspense. less
