review 1: The books in this set were very well written. You can tell they were books from the beginning of Carly's career because while they have sexual tension in them, it lacks the punch and depth of feeling you get from her later books.I think of them all the first book was my favorite, because it had several different elements in it-- an orphan girl in need of a family, the Aunt who lost her chance at ever having a family and the Uncle who didn't know how much he needed both of them. They came together and formed a strong bond that didn't break, maybe got bent out of shape due to obstacles and issues thrown in their path, but never broke completely.
review 2: I really wanted to enjoy this author. My concern began, however, when not even two full sentences into the ... morefirst book there is a serious typographical error. Still, I continued to read hoping for a light, enjoyable work that would pass the time on a sultry evening. Instead, I hit frustration after frustration. Characters that had potential were squashed under the writer's lack of connectivity with the story being told. Emotional disconnect exists between the reader and the story. The dynamics and thought processes, timelines and behaviours just speak clearly of an author who is either very young or disconnected from their own emotions. They are perceived but not understood or embraced. The author has some interesting ideas and basic plots that should work well. Either lack of skill, lack of experience or lack of self awareness are dragging her down. If the author had managed to engage the reader with her prose, the lack of ... quality...on the editor's part would have been a slight irritation that could have been overlooked. I could not recommend this set to anyone, all things considered. less
