review 1: I really enjoyed this series, and am interested to note that it seems people either love or hate it. I think there are probably a couple of reasons for this.First, this book is not very romantic, so romance readers are going to be disappointed. There is a romantic storyline to the series, but it doesn't follow the romance formula very well. Sometimes, both main characters are not very likeable, and their relationship seems doomed.Second, the way this book is written is not typical of the genre. It is very introspective, jumps around temporally, and includes a lot of internal dialogue of a crazy person. So if you like that sort of thing...Also, this follows a fantasy formula that feeds the reader information about the world slowly and allows you to be confused about th... moreings quite a bit. Fantasy readers will know if they like this or not, but paranormal romance readers might not get it. It is about being thrown into an unknown world and not having all of the information you need to understand everything, rather than having everything explained. This author definitely uses the imperfect narrator quite a bit. If you expect a book to tell you what is happening, this is not it.Overall, a great read.
review 2: Wow, this one was an emotional rollercoaster ride. From the first few pages you could think, this book would be all about the sex. But in truth it isn't. There is a complex storyline set in a rich and detailed fantasy world. The "romance" is an integral part of it, but not the main focus. The world of the protagonists is rather dark and depressing in one way or another. There are some funny and hilarious scenes, but the overall tones are darker. The characters were, for me, very likable. They all have their faults and issues. The two protagonists being more broken than most of the othes, every one in their own way. Even though "ghost" spans only the time of about one week, it never gets boring. I couldn't put the book down. It ends with a nasty cliffhanger, so you should have the second book ready as I had to not be disappointed. But I must also warn: If you are susceptible to it, this book can trigger, as one of the main characters, Fen, copes with his "madness" by hurting himself as the pain gives him clarity. There were some scenes, after which I had to lay the book aside and take some deep breaths to anchor myself back in reality. All in all I loved "Ghost", it was the first book in a long while, which emotionally gripped me and made me think about quite a few things.I'm reading the second book, "Weregild" now. less
