review 1: (3.5 stars) (one might think there are spoliers in this so idk if you want to skip reading this?)Okay. First can I just say that this book is GORGEOUS OH MY GOODNESS. I am literally the author bc I love love love collecting vintage scrapbooks and journals... so in that respect, this book is one of the very best e v e r. And the description. Frankie's graduating from high school and wants to be a writer (both like me woot woot) and it takes place in the 1920's. *passes out*The storytelling is superb somehow. The story?Eh.It's a *really good* story, but honestly?I got really. sick. of all of her lovers gone wrong.like come on how many do we need?So... I was disappointed. This had the potential to The Best Book but fell a bit flat on the focus on about 47 lovers who turn out ... morecrap.(but the ending though isnt about a CRAP lover so never MIND.)
review 2: Charming. I enjoyed this more than I expected to. Gatsby's Girl is a tough read, and I picked this up at the same time, thinking it was cute. It was! I enjoyed the photos/clippings/memorabilia. Looks like lots of ebay auctions, as she mentions on her gratitude page. I would say, however, that in a book like this, the images do the heavy lifting. It's hard to praise a book's writing when there is so little. I enjoyed the story, and the photos -- I'm also a writer of the Roaring Twenties, so this felt like a familiar milieu for me. An enjoyable evening's read. less
