review 1: I could see this one coming miles away. It was so simple that I started to come up with more complicated alternatives, then was disappointed that it was, indeed, what I expected. I was disturbed by both Sarah and Tinkie's insistence to involve the police or leave the case, but then changing their minds with one whimper from Eleanor. It didn't ring true with their actions on previous cases. Even with that said, the suspense and action was enough to keep me hooked throughout, and I still find myself wanting to read more Sarah Booth Delaney mysteries.
review 2: The wait for another Sarah Booth Delaney adventure is finally over. Our favorite Southern grown-up version of a Nancy Drew is back in "Bones of a Feather" by Carolyn Haines. If you've missed out on Sarah Boo
... moreth Delaney's antics in any of the 10 previous "Bones" mysteries, let me fill you in. She lives in her family home, Dahlia House, in the Delta, talks to a "haint" named Jitty and plays detective with her best friend Tinkie Bellchase Richmond. This time Sarah Booth and Tinkie think they're getting off easy with their latest case. After all, how much trouble could they get into just checking out a jewelry theft and filing an insurance report?Sisters Monica and Eleanor Levert of Natchez said a $4 million ruby necklace was taken from their historic antebellum estate, Briarcliff, after a couple half-hearted break-ins and spooky sightings. They claim the insurance company is dragging its feet on the claim. As usual, nothing is what it seems when it comes to the Delaney Detective Agency. With 11 "Bones" books under her belt, you might think Haines would be running out of steam, that her characters might be drying up a bit. Instead, each novel adds another layer to the characters, filling in gaps of their past with a hint of the future. And if you worry that you may have to wait for your next Sarah Booth fix, don't fret. The author has signed a deal with St. Martin's Press for "Bones" novels in 2012 and 2013. less
