review 1: I am a big admirer of Marie Antoinette, I was quite eager to read this book as I really liked all of Carolyn Meyer's Royals series. I was very disappointed by this book, I found that I didn't like how the author represented Marie Antoinette. It started out ok, but the latter was portrayed as rather childlike. Later in the book, Marie Antoinette is obsessed with spending, and not doing anything about it which was rather true, but it was repeated in a way, over and over again in this book which I found dull and repetitive. I'm giving this book 2 stars because it was well researched, but I didn't like how Marie Antoinette's personality was portrayed. I found this book to be rather dull, repetitive, and rather dark.
review 2: This is a very interesting novel of the
... more life of Marie Antoinette. I particularly enjoyed the descriptions of the different customs of France and Austria. And I am very glad that my braces weren't like Marie's!!!I also liked that the book told about her adulthood and not just her childhood. I did feel that some parts just dragged on a little bit, such as when Marie was spending large amounts of money. Other than that, I enjoyed the novel and look forward to reading Meyer's other works. less
