review 1: I love the spell and especially the part where the signs come true even though they weren't actually supposed to be there, but because the people wanted to see them before they would actually rise up, they made them come true, which was really cool. I especially like the part about Tiege and when she called the turtles to make the bridge thing. Overall, I just really liked the part when the war was over and I thought it was funny when Lia and Dori changed Count Raven into a snail.
review 2: I picked this off the shelf randomly while waiting for my kids to find books at the library. It was ok; probably meant for 12-year-olds not 27-year-olds, so I'll try not to be too critical. However, even a book meant for 12-year-olds shouldn't seem like it was written by one
... more. It seemed like the author was trying too hard to fit the genre. The names of people and places seemed pretentious and there wasn't a clear structure and organization to the "magical" world she created. I didn't find much to like about Amelia. She was kind of whiny and not all that brave. In fact, she doesn't actually DO much other than walk a lot and get help from adults who have random magical powers. She herself doesn't contribute much; everything is given to her. That's probably what bothered me most about this story: far too much deus ex machina. The basic story had potential to be really good, but didn't turn out that way because the author either tried too hard or not hard enough. less

Excellent book! I loved the princess stepping up to the plate and doing what was needed.
