review 1: I really wanted to like this book. I like the tone of the book--dry British humor. But where the book really fell flat for me was that the whole thing felt half done. Maybe bad writing, maybe bad editing, maybe both. Blyth tried to make points, but would almost never clearly explain what she meant. She would tell anecdotes to make her point, but the descriptions of what happened were so sparse, half the time I didn't understand the joke. I suppose I'm just incredible dense and 'don't get it' but my reading comprehension is generally high, so to not understand the point she was making half the time, the fault can't all be on me. The other possibility is that the anecdotes were too British for a lowly American such as myself. Anyways, it was somewhat entertaining, so ... moreI didn't hate it. It was just 'ok'.
review 2: I did not make it completely through this book. I gave up after just over 100 pages. I felt like the author was constantly saying, "Look at just how witty I am" without every making her point. The stories, quotes and excerpts seemed thrown about willy-nilly and often made the point harder to get too. There were many rules in every chapter. I expected a book of perhaps conversation starters and tips of what to do in a conversation which is not going well. Instead, I got a bloated opinion piece. less

She knows what she's talking about. Problem is people don't listen anymore :)
