review 1: This one reminds me of some of my favorite stories from the Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction, the kind that make the subscription worth it. 99.9% of the story takes place inside the virtual reality of a human/machine dreamworld, so expect even more of Valente's gloriously strange imagery: a honey-colored sea, a house with green hands for windows, a young girl with swirling hair and jeweled cybernetic fish swimming through the tendrils. The book (well, novella, anyway) tells a very simple story, but takes the LONG way around to get there.
review 2: Very good and fast paced read. Some of the other reviewers seemed to think it was a little "out-there" but having just read Diamond Age and The Fractal Prince full of ractives and vir spaces, I had been unknowi
... morengly prepared for this. My only complaint is that it is a little unsatisfying in its ending, though for a novella I can't really imagine what other direction could've been taken. 4 or 5 really. less
