review 1: What happened?! I loved The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland, loved it. This one, on the other hand... It was an afterthought, a sad little bubble of a story that did not do anything for the reader. Valente's style is vaguely reminiscent of Andersen's, but it lacks his natural lyricism. Where his touch is light, Valente's is heavyhanded. Let's just hope her next book I'm about to read is better.
review 2: This was wonderful- I listened to the first book on audio (which was amazing), so it was really interesting to actually read how the passages flowed. I adored the beauty, the way each sentence had so obviously been picked and chosen with optimum care and everything MEANT something, everything was necessary. I really am interested in Mallow's story, so while ... morethis still left me a tad confused, I throughly enjoyed learning about her and seeing fairyland before September's entrance. less
