review 1: A nice story, definitely suited better to children, which I knew it probably would be. My only problem is that I saw all the twists and turns coming from a long way off, it tries to play at mystery but it doesn't really pull it off. Also the main portion of the book takes place over the space of a weekend, which really was not enough time to set the right amount of intrigue or depth behind the characters.
review 2: . Solid, fairy tale like adventure. No actual magic but there are fantastical moments. Bonus for the portrayal of the friendship of the 3 girls, who although a bit stereotypical (the pretty/fashionable one, the brainy one) do not bully each other. they struggle a few times and make-up and support each other. Predictable with no surprises but that’s... more what makes it a fairy-tale like read. Recommend widely and gentle enough for 2nd grade+ , the girls are in middle school but they are young middle schoolers. less
