A Letter To My Daughter
Dear Ella, Hi my bug. It is January 10, 2018. I have been thinking a lot about writing this to you over the last few days. “What do I want Ella to know?” So many things came to my mind. Initially, this all started as a bullet pointed list of things that kept coming to me. Thoughts just kept overlapping. Some were typed, others forgotten…in this jumbled mix of words coming to me all at once. When you are old enough to read this and can understand my words to you, I hope you never forget them. You, my angel, are nothing short of a beautiful work of art. Keep these words with you in your heart, always. I love you, my sweet Ella.
Never let the world harden your compassionate soul. Even though the world is a scary place and you will meet bad people out there…bad things can happen, never let this change you for the worse.
Never base your worth off of your appearance. You are so much more than a pretty face. You are dynamite. You are fierce. Self esteem issues will appear, but don’t you ever once think you are not worthy of something because of how you look. Okay baby?
You are gentle. Your soul is wild and magnificient.
Take care of your body and love your body. No matter its shape, you will always be perfect to me. Don’t forget to tell yourself everything you love about yourself. Talk yourself up. You are one of a kind. Make sure to take time for you. Your body is sacred and its the only one you get in this lifetime. Drink lots of water (fluoride free! ♥).
Set life goals and never stop working toward them, only if they make you happy though. When you find things that you love doing, keep them up. Always do things that make you feel good.
Do not judge others and always stand up for what is right. Your words can change lives, so use them for good, baby. Everyone has different stories. Life can be hard. Never base your wanting to interact/talk to another, on their appearance. You will find that being accepting of all, will fill your life with so much happiness. “Never judge a book by its cover” is a quote you should always keep in mind.
Do not ignore your intuition. You know those gut feelings where something just doesn’t feel quite right? Always listen to that feeling.
Learn To Forgive. Holding grudges is no way to live. You can be mad, sad, hurt, but do not hold on to pain. Forgiveness can be so hard, i know, but if you don’t let go of things that are painful, it will only bring you more pain. You will learn that some people do not want to change, but you must keep blossoming baby.
Be kind to others. Kindness is a beautiful thing. I trust that you always will. Be nice baby. Kindness is contagious. There will be dull days, but by simply being nice, you have the power to change someones entire day. In return, you will feel so good. Compliment yourself and others.
Be open minded. Anything is possible. Its never wrong to believe in the unbelievable.
Don’t be scared to say “No” for fear of someone being upset with you. It wont make you a bad person. I know that “saying no” can be hard to do, but do not let something negatively affect your day by doing something that you do not want to do by responding with ‘Yes”. Be true to yourself. If the person is persistent, be firm. You are not always able to say no to avoid these instances ( going to work, school, etc). However, when you have the option, think of yourself..
You will experience heart break and its okay to cry and scream, but baby – it will pass. This is so important Ella. Never forget that you will fall in so love many times before you find who you will be with. Mimi taught me that. It will hurt every time. She was always there to hold me when my heart was breaking and I promise to always be there for you, bug. Time heals. You are worthy of the deepest and strongest love. You will know when its right.
There will always be hard times and mistakes will be made. These mountains will make you stronger as you climb, if you chose to grow from them. Remember, in order to grow into a better you, it is OKAY to make mistakes. You have to take the initiative to learn from your errors though. Even if it takes you more than once, even if its frustrating. You will grow. You are so amazing.
Life can be hard, but good things will always come if you’re patient and you continue spreading light, love and positivity.
I know this is true, because you’re my proof.
