review 1: I enjoyed this book until the last couple of chapters. I felt in the end it was rushed and "unfinished". There weren't any real big surprises in it for me. At least one of the characters that I thought did it was an accomplice to the act. The main character Ava, was not overly likable, but the author did a good job giving enough background history on her that you could understand why she had such major personality flaws for a main character and in the end you could even forgive the main character for such flaws. The ending was so much a let down for me that I don't know that I would recommend the book to anyone else other than the fact that I truly loved the "aunts". I think if the author had wrote one more chapter to tie up loose ends and bring all the characters to... moregether I would have truly loved the book. Who knows, maybe the author left it the way she did to come back to later on and write a sequel.
review 2: I really enjoyed this novel. I could relate to the cultural differences between middle Tennesseans and Michiganders as I married a man from middle Tennessee and I am from Michigan. The author really nailed the cultural differences. I remember when my brother in law and father in law called the Civil War the War of Northern Aggression and I thought Huh??? What is that?? Just like the character Ava!! Also, I liked the interwoven stories and mysteries throughout the book. I was curious as to why Will cared for Ava so much in the first place because they just didn't seem compatible. I kept thinking throughout the book How is the author going to put these two together? Bravo! Well-written highly enjoyable novel. less
