review 1: Very rarely do the last 50 pages or so of a novel change my mind about the entire thing. This one did. I had an extremely difficult time getting into this book it seemed like by page 200 or so there was still groundwork being laid for the story. I continued on since, for me, a book has to be just terrible to stop reading before the end. I'm glad I finished it. The ending made the whole book worthwhile.

The focus is on the two older sisters and how their lives played out in 19th Paris, the period during which Edgar Degas was painting his portraits of the young dancers. I find it hard to believe how much the world has changed, in such... more profound ways in the 150 years since this story took place. less
