review 1: Our heroine is independent and intelligent, but makes mistakes in judgement like any 17-year-old, who thinks she knows so much, yet realizes she knows so little. As a mother of a teenager, I particularly liked the relationship between our heroine and her mother. These are women who are not strong because they have been trained to be, but in the face of diversity have found the strength in themselves to live rather than give up--and that strength comes from their intense love for each other. Relationships and not-judging-a-book-by-its-cover are strong themes here, both mundane and magical. Clean enough for a young teen, yet was mature and riveting for me. Well done, Ms. Langley!

... morey, it seemed like the fantasy part was really just a minor thing compared to drama going on in Emmas life. I found Emma to be a strong, likeable (though sometimes frustrating) character, and her relationships were very well developed. I wouldn't have expected to like a book that has more of a drama element than fantasy, but I did. I was very drawn into Emma's life. My only complaint is that I feel this book really deserves a sequel, especially since the ending still holds one loose end that I was hoping could be addressed. All in all, a really great novel. I hope to read more from Ceinwen Langley :) less

This book was great and very well written. I think it ended a little early, though.

Wonderful book aimed at young adults, but I enjoyed it even at my age!
