review 1: The first in The Asharton Manor Mysteries set in 1929 when the world was changing very quickly. Very enjoyable period mystery told in the traditional first person by the unlikeliest of sleuths, Joan Hart a new kitchen maid. Asharton Manor is an imposing edifice, packed with the requisite secrets and history. Grand but somber. Author Celina Grace paints a gratifying picture of the vast difference between upstairs and downstairs life we've become enamored with through shows like Downton Abbey. I thoroughly enjoyed this mystery and would give it five stars except for the brevity. I would have enjoyed a longer stay in Asharton Manor.
review 2: Loved this novella by Celina Grace! I love her writing and have read her Kate Redman series which I loved as that is the so... morert of novel I tend to read. I also love her stand alone books especially The house on Fever Street. I knew she had a new series out but had been put off as it was classed as "historical". But a free download made me think I would give it a try and I am glad I did!! I loved Joan and her friend Verity and was thinking how sad they wouldn't be in the next in series as time has moved on but if I am right I think Celina is giving them their own little series next year? Looking forward to meeting them again and now off to look at the rest of the Asharton Manor series as they are a perfect length for dipping into on my holiday! less
