review 1: It was difficult to get through this book. It just completely bored me, and it was all very predictable. I also thought the snow globe thing was rather unnecessary for the story, but maybe that's just me. When I first started reading, I assumed that the snow globe would add an interesting and important factor to the plot (sort of like in that ABC Family movie Snowglobe), but it sort of just took the backburner and the whole dogs disappearing from a snow globe thing became rather stale after a while. It would've been nice if the snow globe hadn't of been involved at all, because I don't think it was needed for the story. I would've preferred to learn more about Cassandra's childhood, Margaret, or more about Burt and Betty, because they were adorable together.I also wasn't a... moreware that this was Christian fiction. I assumed that this book was simply going to be about a woman and her love for dogs, and also dealing with her difficult relationship with her mother. It seems like God, sin, or faith was brought up every few pages, which bothered me a lot. I'm an Atheist, and there was nothing in the book description that noted that it would be Christian fiction. There was Psalm verse at the beginning of the book, but I hadn't noticed that until after I had bought it, and that doesn't necessarily indicate that God would be thrown in my face every few pages. Regardless, I think this book could've been a lot better. I had high hopes for this book, but I quickly became disappointed.
review 2: An interesting read from a genre I don't generally frequent, Stray Affections offers readers a little bit of everything. Family drama, a love of creatures great and small, heartache, happiness, and everything in between. Though the book is a part of the Snowglobe Series, there really wasn't much of the actual snowglobe in the book, but when it's presence was made known it gave the reader something else to contemplate altogether. The characters have a journey to travel within this book and though at times it's end is not quite clear, the personal revelations made and obstacles conquered make for a read to remember. less
