review 1: Oh my goodness. You just just can't read anything by Charles Martin without being impressed. This man can write. A clean book, which all of Mr. Martin's books are, but it's a page-turner.After a life as a Texas Ranger, and suffering a heart wrenching pending divorce, Ty wants to lead a normal, calm life with his son on a ranch.He's suddenly sucked into a dramatic amount of trouble when he pulls over to help a woman and child in a car on the side of the road during a storm. Oh, he doesn't want to get sucked in, but his strong sense of integrity and protective character win. Evil personified is following this woman and the plot thickens. Shoot, I'm biting my nails right now remembering all Ty went through out of a sense of duty and honor....and having Texas Ranger abili... moreties under his belt doesn't hurt either.Did I say this was a page-turner? Yeah, well, it bears repeating.Get it. Highly recommended.
review 2: I felt like some of the guns and holsters were described better than most of the characters. I am not even sure how two of the characters actually fell in love. Was anyone else creeped out by his stalking his ex? This isn't really my favorite genre and I was reading it for book club. The resolution of Hope and her mom's situation was very anticlimactic. I did like how the theme of forgiveness and keeping promises is presented. That actually saved the book for me in the end. I am not sure why this was described as a mystery... Action might be more appropriate. I also liked the back and forth between Cowboy and Hope's perspectives and how they were both pretty naïve about different things. less
