review 1: Después de leer el primer libro: "Roses in the devil garden" tenía unas inmensas ganas de leer este segundo libro, la historia de Julius. No solo por lo bien que escribe Charlie Cochet, sino porque este tipo de historias son mis preferidas, el romance histórico. No me ha decepcionado en absoluto. Obviamente lo he leído en inglés, (por mucho que me gustaría haberlo hecho en español, no hay traducción) y me ha encantado. Los personajes muy bien perfilados, tanto Eros como Edward y los secundarios con sus particularidades y sobre todo, el ambiente del Pantheon de los años 20. Me hizo soñar mientras lo leía y sí, me recordó a las películas de época como bien dice la autora en su introducción. Me gustan los diálogos tan inteligentes que tiene, cómo el romance ... morese desarrolla poco a poco, Edward no se detiene ante la adversidad y no solo le interesa el aspecto erótico, sino el conocer profundamente a Eros, que por otra parte, me pareció un personaje muy inteligente y encantador, seductor, y muy humano cuando adquiere el nombre de Julius. Creo que lo leeré una y otra vez, a pesar de los aspectos dramáticos que tiene la historia, me hizo vivir y soñar con esa época. Me emocionó bastante. Muy recomendable.
review 2: An “okay” read if you like historical settings. Charlie Cochet did a good job capturing the spirit of the time (prohibition). The blurb “rich guy/whore/bad guy” isn’t essentially a new one but she gave it a unique background. Unfortunately for a long time I missed the humor I’ve experienced in other books by this author. There were funny situations etc. but I really missed the dialogues being as witty as in her other books. This only changed till the end with the introduction of two additional characters who finally brought the spice to the story. So all in all a nice read but not my favorite.3,5 stars less
