review 1: Okay Mieville. I wasn't going to do this after The Scar let me down so horribly, but I gave you another shot. This one... this one I didn't even finish. To be honest, I really just couldn't bring myself to care about all the crap you're tossing in my face. You might have a thousand intriguing and original ideas, but if you don't have an interesting character and an engaging plot, you just don't have a book. Embassytown fails on a basic level, and I really can't be bothered wasting my time on it. Goodbye!
review 2: I've read other books by China Mievielle and really enjoyed them, however, I was about to stop reading this book at around page 40. It just seemed too dense and wordy and I couldn't really see what was the point or where it might go. Now I'm very glad
... more I didn't stop. China Mievelle is an exceptional writer who seems to think up indescribable things, and then manages to describe them anyway. Don't expect an easy read, but if you love language and words this is one for you. less

It took me a long time to get into the story but once it clicked, I was hooked.
