review 1: * ARC PROVIDED BY THE AUTHOR FOR AN HONEST REVIEW * City of Champions is the second book in the gateway to love series written by Chloe T. Barlow. This book could be read as a standalone. City of champions is written in both Jenna and Wyatt’s POV.I knew this book was going to be great once I read the Prologue. The book started off so intense and full of emotion I couldn’t wait to start the first chapter. Jenna is a strong surgeon that has been thru it all. She has struggled with such a loss at a young age and then during her teen years endures pain yet again through a horrible event. These events have made Jenna toughen her heart and set barriers way to high so that no one can knock them down. That is until she meets Wyatt a cocky, stunning quarterback who Jenna has be... moreen intrigued with since his career as a pro football player.Jenna and Wyatt have a chance to meet after Wyatt’s game and the chemistry is sizzling, but Jenna will avoid acting on it at all cost, but Wyatt has a different game plan. Wyatt is a starter quarterback but is having trouble with his shoulder and needs a second evaluation if he needs surgery for his shoulder. He is thumbing thru some surgeons profiles when he stumbles across the hot doctor Jenna herself. He wonders to himself if he can pursue the hot little doctor and get her to reason with him and make the decision that he doesn’t need surgery. This starts the plot of the story that will put your emotions in full gear. As you read thru the chapters you will read heartache, love, passion, and deceit. The plan to make the hot surgeon fall for him and sway her to give her medical opinion that will benefit his career comes crashing down on him once secrets are revealed and Jenna is the one who ends up getting hurt with the lies and deceit. She feels like a fool for letting her guard down and falling for Wyatt. Can she ever find it in her heart to forgive him, can he prove that his first agenda flew out the door once he started to fall in love with her. Time will tell, pick up the book today to find out. We recommend you pick up the book today to read. The author Chloe Barlow did it again by writing a captivating book that sucks you right in. Both Wyatt and Jenna’s characters were well written as if you were living them. Can’t forget those supporting characters either you will love all their personalities. Chloe scored a touchdown on this book. We’re rating the book 5 stars! Go team Barlow!Written by Jamie L. for Summer’s Book Blog.
review 2: I enjoyed this book but not as much as the first one in the series. Jenna was the no nonsense, more serious and independent one of the “trio of birds”, the brown bird. Wyatt had found limited success as a NFL quarterback but his attitude towards the game was not of passion but more of a financial responsibility for his family. Both Jenna and Wyatt were very compatible where they were highly responsible individuals and at times appeared that they did not know how to have fun. However, together they created sparks, enjoyed and had fun with each other. The author’s books have been entertaining, not only the romance but the camaraderie and friendship as well as the smattering level of suspense. The one complaint about this book was that I found the dialogue between Jenna and Wyatt stilted especially in the beginning. less
