review 1: Anyone who has lived in San Francisco can tell you that there is some unseen magic that pervades the city. This book does a great job in bringing that feeling forth in the reader. It deals with pain, hope, recovery, and the human condition in general. Adrian weaves a new twist on Shakespeare through the novel (Midsummer Night's Dream). Some of the magical parts lost me toward the end, but probably just because I was carried away by the beautiful writing and language. I enjoyed it.
review 2: Great Night kept me reading, probably because of the premise which was lovely and magical supposedly a retelling of my favorite Shakespeare. The book was very slow going though, perhaps because it was so disjointed and I couldn't keep strict track of who was who. In the end
... more I had to let it wash over me like poetry - only the prose was decidedly lacking in poetry - even though at times it seemed the author was trying for it. Overall not recommended unless you are already a fan of this author. less

Holy crap...this was the worst book I've read in a really long time. Don't waste your time.

What a strange book.... great idea, but unfortunately not really worth the time.

It's dark and twisted, like a nightmare, but utterly engrossing.
