review 1: I've read all of Chris Guillebeau's books, and this was hands down my favorite. I love his writing style anyway, but I couldn't put this one down. Perhaps it is because I feel on the verge of a quest of my own, but I just loved the stories in this book. Even though many of the stories in this book revolved around travel, and I'm not a traveler, the ideas still really appealed to me. I also like that he defined a quest when starting to collect these stories, but left it somewhat open to the reader as to what a quest is to you. I am anxious to start my own pursuit.
review 2: The author completed his quest to travel to every country in the world, and then he wrote about his travels, thoughts of his accomplishment, and of other peoples quests as well. If I were to... more accomplish something of this nature, I'd write a book about it too, and I'm positive there are people who would read it and enjoy it because they're of like mind. I found this book to be extremely tedious, but there were so many tidbits that were good and valuable. I thought it would be a motivational piece about achieving goals, but instead it's more a chronicle about the author's happiness in his own quest and about other people chasing their own life consuming quests. Perhaps if I were at a point in my life where chasing quests did not discount my family, I would had enjoyed the book more. As I read I constantly thought things like, "ya but they are single" "Ya but they CAN ignore their family cuz kids aren't relying on them", etc. Questing seems very single minded and very self-focused, and the author did acknowledge this topic, and even compared goals vs quests.I didn't enjoy this book at all, but I would be terribly remiss to say that there weren't some great tidbits about goal setting, striving to accomplish difficult tasks and overcoming obstacles that anyone working toward a goal could benefit from. less
