Adrian's Undead Diary
review 1: Alone No More (Adrian's Undead Diary, Book 2) by Chris Philbrook Began read, 4.25.2014. Completed, 4.26.2014After completing the first book in this series, I was ready to keep reading about Adrian and his post apocalyptic adventures. The title indicated he was going to meet some real living people and I wondered who they might be.I was not disappointed in the story. Adrian had some scary and uplifting adventures in this book. Don't want to give any thing away, but I think it's worth reading if you found the first book interesting and want to continue in Adrian's world for a bit longer. One does need to read the first book prior to this book.I like the way Chris writes. His descriptions of activities highlight needed words that help to bring me into the story. ... moreHe introduces a wide range of characters in this book. I can see and hear them based on his wonderful descriptions. As in the first book, the sadder stories are heart felt and add a lot of depth to the story. However, Chris needs better editing. Maybe a couple of internet friends would be willing to give his books a shot (prior to publication) and help him with his grammar issues. Objective and subjective cases are not interchangeable. Paraphrasing here (from the book)... driving up to Staci and I's house... I see no excuse for publishing a statement like that. Chris is simply too good of a creative writer to be making this sort of mistake. A lot of words added to sentences that should not be there, (example only, not from book): I tried not to fall to down the steps to the kitchen... Honestly, I see this in a lot of books, recently even a Shirley Jackson classic. I know I do this sort of thing all the time...but then again, I'm not a professional writer. The story stopped at 97% of the book. That's not too bad and I understand wanting to make money and introduce another book...I've seen much worse. It's just that well, I borrowed the first book from amazon prime library. Then 3.99 for the second book. Now the publishing company wants 4.99 for the 3rd book?? When does this end...These books are good, but I read fast and need some of my hard earned money for some other reads, also. I'm sure I will break down today and order the next book. The story is interesting and I am interested to see if the poor editing improves. Chris, if you are reading this, I would be happy to read any future books in this series to help out with the editing. You are a very talented creative writer.I recommend this book for those of us enjoying a good story.ADDENDUM: As mentioned about, the 3rd book in the series is 4.99. More than the others. However, the book is over 400 pages. So maybe that is the reason for the increased price. I hope it's not packed full of “examples” of other books at the end. Guess I'll purchase it and find out!!
review 2: I cannot begin to count the hours of reading pleasure that Chris has given me with Adrian's Undead Diary. His writing style makes every house that he goes to real in your mind. With each character's description, you feel like you know them, and you get so emotionally wrapped up with them because they just seem so damn REAL.No, I am not a crazy nutjob, I am 55 years old, a nursing student and an avid reader of this genre, just check out my Kindle, every book on it is a Zombie apoc. book. and now I am happily adding each of Chris's books along with getting hard copies of Dark Recollections and now Alone No More to add to the book shelves in my living room. If you like to read and if you like this subject. Then do yourself a favor and start your collection. Winter is coming and there is nothing better than curling up on the couch or your favorite chair or snuggling into bed and opening up the door and entering into Adrian's world. I promise you, you will NOT be disappointed!!! less
